Laylat ul Isra

by Eric on July 30, 2008

Today is the Muslim holy day Laylat ul Isra, or night of the voyage, which commemorates Mohammed’s trip to “the farthest mosque” and to heaven. The farthest mosque is often thought to be the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, though it is belived by Middle East historians that the idea that the farthest mosque lies on the Temple Mount was fabricated by a past Islamic leader in Israel.

Elder of Ziyon did a great post on the holiday and history. Be sure to check it out.
