Iranian Man Convicted of Spying for Israel

by Eric on July 1, 2008

Ali Ashtari is Iranian.  He worked as an electronics supplier for Iran’s military.  On the outside, he looks like someone who Israel would be happy to see dissapear.  However, this particular supplier is accused (and convicted in Iranian court) of giving information to the Mossad.

It is rare that Israel finds a friend in such a place, but this man was courageous enough to stand up against his dictatorial government for a just cause.  Ashtari stood up for safety, security, and freedom in a country where such things are laughable.

I applaud Ashtari for his efforts.  According to reports, Ashtari gave information about several government agencies, including the agency overseeing Iran’s pursuit of “nuclear energy.”  I hope he is spared the death penalty, though under the circumstances I highly doubt that will be the case.
