City Focus Israel: Netanya

by Eric on July 5, 2008

The distance from Netanya, a coastal city, to the West Bank is the narrowest point in Israel. It is only 9 miles from the Palestinian city Tulkarm. Because of this, security is a major concern. Netanya has been attacked numerous times, including the internationally known Passover Seder Attack in 2002.

Despite living in the shadow of terror, Netanya is a bustling city with malls, school, and people who prove that they will not give up on their home. Founded in 1928 on land legally purchased from the Arab owner, the city has grown to 174,000 residents, 99.9% Jewish.

Netanya sits on the Mediteranian Sea north of Tel Aviv. The beautiful location and wonderful people make Netanya a must visit city in the Jewish homeland. The city is also a popular tourist destination for Israelis, as it has a long beachfront and many hotels.
