Palestinians on Our Side of the Attacks

by Eric on June 29, 2008

According to municipal registrations, 17 families have fled Gaza and been allowed to live around Sderot.  According to estimates, the number is really closer to 80.

Why do 80 families from Gaza, the home of enemy Hamas, now live in Israel?  That is an easy answer, they prefer it.  Safety, economic opportunities, freedom… the list goes on.  Some were allowed to come in through deals with Israeli intelligence.  Some were able to get in through other arangements.  But now, they are on the receiving side of Qassam Rocket attacks from their brothers in Gaza.

When asked how to end the attacks, they did not propose such a complex solution as the Israeli government or the UN.  They have a simple answer.  “The choice is war or peace. There is no middle course.”

Those who made the jump to Israel cannot easily go back and visit family and friends.  Partially due to the boarder closingings.  The biggest obsatcle is their safety.  Hamas will kill known collaborators with Israel.  But they would not go back.

“Israel is a terrific country,” says one such former Gazan. “Show me one Arab country in the Middle East that takes care of its people so well. I received a nice house and the state pays for my children’s education. It is really okay.”

This is just one more demonstration of the wonderful lives Israelis take advantage of day to day, and an inside perspective on how to end terror attacks into Israel, a real war to end Hamas’ reign.  Read more about Israel’s silent partners at the JPost.
