In recent months Israel has been hinting at the possibility of releasing prisoner and murderer Samir Kuntar to Lebanon in exchange for Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, the two Israeli soldiers captured by Hizbullah prior the start of the conflict in Lebanon. Hezbollah took these soldiers captive with the intentions of swapping them in a deal for Kuntar, who has been serving a life sentence in Israel since 1979.
Kuntar is a Lebanese terrorist who participated in a cross-border attack on the northern-Israel town of Nahariya in 1979, in which two policemen, a 28 year old father and his four-year old daughter were murdered by the terrorists. Kuntar seized Danny Haran and his daughter Einat and took them down to the nearby beach, where Kuntar shot Danny in front of Einat and proceeded to drown Danny in the beach. When Einat began to scream, Kuntar threw the little girl on to the ground and smashed her skull with his rifle, killing her.
Kuntar has openly stated that if released, he will continue to orchestrate and participate in attacks against Israel. I’m not sure why Israel is even considering releasing Kuntar, since he would still pose a major threat to the country and more Israeli casualties would occur as a result. Lets not forget that Goldwasser and Regev are most likely dead and Israel would be exchanging Kuntar for dead bodies, as they have done in the past. (I am not opposed to sending Kuntar back to Lebanon in a body bag however).
