On Sunday Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert confirmed what has been in the works for a long time now – the release of the late Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, two Israeli soldiers who were captured by Hezbollah in the summer of 2006 and held for two years. Hezbollah killed both the captives, and Israel will be receiving Goldwasser and Regev in bodybags. In exchange Israel will release five convicted terrorists, among them Samir Kuntar – the murderer of the Haran family who has vowed to continue his terrorist activities as soon as he is released. Israel will also return to Lebanon a number of dead Hezbollah fighters.
Israel is making a big mistake; the terrorist factions will continue to abduct soldiers and continue to demand the release of more terrorist in Israeli prisons. Released terrorists like Samir Kuntar will orchestrate more attacks against Israel and more innocent civilians will die as a result. Who will be to blame when this happens? Releasing potential threats to the country is a crime – Israel can not afford to do this anymore.
