City Focus Israel: Ma’ale Adumim

by Eric on June 6, 2008

Ma’ale Adumim is a Jerusalem suburb. Many of the 33,000 residents commute to work in Jerusaelm daily.

The beautiful town was established in the 1970s on land that was considered “state land” by the Israeli government. Prior to 1967, the area was considered state land by Jordan and the Ottoman Empire, contrary to several false claims. The first twenty three families moved to Ma’ale Adumim on the 7th night of Chanukah in 1975.

The town was granted city status in 1991 by the State of Israel, and is part of the Gush Etzion Regional Council.
