City Focus Israel: Modi’in

by Eric on May 8, 2008

Modi’in is located on Highway 443 between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The city, with a population of 68,000, is growing quickly.

It is part of the Emeq Modiin area, also home to Maccabim, Re’ut, Modiin Illit, and Hashmonaim. The city is named after the historic Modiin, home to the Jewish Hasmoneans. Historic Modiin is the starting location of the Maccabean revolt from the Chanukah story.

Today, Modiin is a vibrant town, surrounded by moshavim and beautiful forest. I had the opportunity to visit the nearby Moshav Mevo Modi’in for a wonderful Shabbos experience. I returned to the Moshav for Purim. The surrounding agricultural land and forest are absolutely beautiful. It is a great “off the beaten path” tiyul for any Jewish tourist in Israel.
