Secretary Rice Delays Trip to Israel For Shabbos

by Eric on March 27, 2008

From the J-Post:

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has agreed to postpone her landing in Tel Aviv by one hour and a half on Friday in order not to land during Shabbat.

The Foreign Ministry has asked Rice to postpone her landing after they have realized that since the clocks were taken one hour forward on Friday morning (2 am turned to 3 am) for day light savings, Shabbat will stay a little later.

It is nice to see that the United States is sensitive to the religious views of many Israelis. Working with Israel, as many other nations in the Middle East, requires different sensitivities than other parts of the world. Good job Condi!
