Israel Removes Two Settlement Outposts

by Eric on January 16, 2008

The Israeli government removed all residents from two settlement outposts in the West Bank. Residents at Harchivi, near Nablus, fled when Israeli police came to remove them. Resident at Shvut Ami, near Harchivi, were not so easy going. Around 20 teenage protestors were forcibly removed. They chanted, “The land of Israel belongs to the people of Israel.”

The settlements have been dismantled in the past, but have always been rebuilt. This move was likely due to pressure from the United States following the President’s recent visit.

For more information, read this AP article.

While it is likely small settlements like these will be dismantled, it is important to support those living in the major settlement blocs such as Gush Etzion. I support all settlers, and hope that a peace can be reached without removing Israelis from their homes.
