The Syria Factor

by Eric on July 17, 2006

I recently read that Hizbullah is considering firing on Syria over the Golan to draw the Syrians into the Israel-Lebanon war. As of now, Israel claims to have destroyed about 25% of Hizbullah’s operational capacity, with plans to eliminate their operational ability before the conflict ends.

The Lebanese government, which controls the north of Lebanon, is considering joining the Israeli side (although for different reasons) and fighting against Hizbullah. This would be great for the Lebanese citizens, as having a terrorist group control the southern half of the country has been terrible for the living conditions of the Lebanese people.

I hope Syria stays out of the conflict and that Israel will be able to incapacitate the Hizbullah forces quickly with little loss of life.
