EU Peacekeeping Force

by Eric on July 24, 2006

The world is now discussing an international peacekeeping force on the Israel-Lebanon boarder. The US seems optimistic about this plan, and the EU has joined in on the enthusiasm. The question is, will it work and will it be biased.

A purely EU led force will be problematic for Israel. The EU may not effectivly be able to end rocket fire into Israel, while they will be there to condem Israeli retaliation.

The best proposed solution in this sphere of thought as of yet is a NATO led force. This would put the US in a postion of influence over the peacekeeping force, and would be able to look into this situation in a way to support the Israeli position, which is defense, while also observing Hizbullah attacks.

It is important that an unbiased force be present to end attacks from both sides, not just tell the world about them.
